Conference Venue

Dresden is a conference venue with a long cultural and scientific tradition. Dresden is often called “Elbflorenz” which means “Florence at the river Elbe”, addressing the famous art collections as well the unique collection of baroque buildings forming the old core of the city.

The historic centre located at the bench of the river Elbe consists mainly of the Zwinger with various art collections in particular the Old Masters Picture Gallery with paintings by Rembrandt, Dürer, Titian, Raphael (the Sistine Madonna) and many others, the Semper Opera House and the Royal Palace, as well as the recently rebuilt Frauenkirche and Brühl's Terrace with a marvellous view over the river. These sights attract several million visitors each year. Dresden is also known as one of the most important scientific centres in Germany.

The Technische Universität Dresden, in short the TU Dresden, was founded in 1828 and is one of the largest technical universities of the country with about 39'000 students and 14 faculties. It offers a research and teaching spectrum covering the whole range from social sciences over engineering towards medicine. Since 2012, TU Dresden is one of the Excellence universities chosen by the German Research Community (DFG) and the German Council of Science and Humanities. Our host faculty, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, covers the whole field of engineering disciplines with about 50 full professorships. Areas of interest range from fluid mechanics to biomaterials and from nanotechnology to lightweight and power engineering.
