Magnetic Immunoassays
Prof. Peter Hawkins presented us in 2012 with an excellent 3 half-hour tutorial on the use of magnetic particles in immunoassays. Tests based on immunoassays now make a major contribution in the diagnosis of diseases and magnetic particles play an important part in the sample extraction and purification stages of automated, immunoassay analysers in clinical chemistry laboratories. Magnetic particles can also be used as the label in the immunoassay which has the potential of developing one-step, near-patient analysers. Prof. Hawkins is a named inventor on several patents of such an analyser.
