How to Get Around in London

The London Underground subway train system is fast, efficient and an excellent way to travel around the city. The Underground is often called "the tube".

The best way to get around via London public transit is to tap your credit card, either on the yellow card reader in a bus, or the reader on the ticket gates of the London Underground stations. This will always charge you the cheapest fare, and will cap your charge at the maximum daily amount. We recommend you use this method.

You can also choose to get an Oyster Card, which is a prepaid card that you can tap in the same way. Details of the Oyster card are here: https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/how-to-pay-and-where-to-buy-tickets-and-oyster/pay-as-you-go/oyster-pay-as-you-go

Transport From Heathrow Airport

To get to central London (and the meeting) from Heathrow airport, we recommend taking the London Underground (the "tube"). It is much cheaper than the Heathrow Express, which you will also see advertised at the airport. The Express will get you to London Paddington Station in 15 minutes for £25 (cheaper if booked in advance). The Underground takes about an hour (depending where you are going in London) but will generally be much cheaper than the Express. See above for information on which tube stations are closest to the meeting location at UCL Main Campus on Gower Street.

The Transport For London website at tfl.gov.uk has detailed information on getting around London.
